Luxembourg deepens engagement with China

Luxembourg for Finance was part of a delegation accompanying Prime Minister Xavier Bettel on an official visit to China this week. PM Bettel had meetings with President Xi Jinping and with Prime Minister Li Keqiang to discuss issues of global interest as well as the future development of bilateral relations, including in financial services.

Luxembourg’s PM Bettel and Minister of Finance Pierre Gramegna also met with representatives of Chinese financial institutions as well as the ICT community.

In presence of the Prime Ministers of both countries, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between China’s National Internet Finance Association (NIFA) and Luxembourg House of Financial Technology (LHoFT), providing a framework to intensify the cooperation between both countries in the area of digitalization of financial services.

In the margins of the visit, Nicolas Mackel, the CEO of Luxembourg for Finance took part  in an ASIFMA conference in Hong Kong along other panelists from Hongkong, Singapore and London to discuss how financial hubs are engaging with China to promote access to capital markets.
